Canada Coast To Coast 2007 is a touring bicycle journey across Canada from Victoria in British Columbia to St John's in Newfoundland. Occupying the northern half of the North American continent, Canada is the second-largest country in the world after Russia. From east to west, Canada encompasses six time zones, ten provinces and three territories. Because of the harsh northern climate, only twelve percent of the land is suitable for agriculture. Most of the population lives within a few hundred miles of the southern border with the United States, where the climate is milder.
The adventure will cover approximately 5,100 miles over a period of 3 months commencing on July 1st 2007.
No support vehicles will be provided, this challenge will be a completely unsupported
ride requiring the participants to carry their life on their bike from start to
finish.
The individuals that have decided to take up the challenge are Andrew
Baker (Hacky) and Ben Knock (Knocky). Andrew is an Australian who currently
lives in Dubai, UAE whereas Ben is English and resides in London, England. Neither can clearly
remember the origins of the idea but one thing is for sure, initially
this was to be a self-indulgent challenge, until now......
Rather than using the trip soley as a personal challenge, an attempt will be made
to raise money for
MacMillan Cancer Support via
Just Giving. It is hoped that
the money raised can help others benefit from the hard work that has been put into
the organisation of this trip and the effort that will be put in to the spinning
of those
wheels!!!
